Overview

Ivory is an offline-first voice-notes application developed by Maksim Rabinovich. Ivory does not require an account and does not operate a server that receives your recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, study guides, or flashcards.

Information Ivory handles

To provide its features, Ivory handles content that you choose to create or import:

  • Microphone audio recorded through Ivory.
  • Audio files you import into the app.
  • Recordings transferred from your paired Apple Watch.
  • Transcripts, titles, summaries, subjects, study guides, and flashcards generated from your content.
  • App preferences, such as whether onboarding has been completed.

How processing works

Speech transcription runs on your device using a model included with Ivory. Compatible devices may use Apple-provided on-device intelligence features to improve titles and summaries. Ivory does not send your recordings or note content to an Ivory-operated server.

Storage and deletion

Recordings and note data are stored locally in Ivory's app container on your device. You can delete an individual recording while retaining its note, delete a complete note, or delete all notes and recordings from Ivory's Settings.

Deleting Ivory from a device generally removes its local app data from that device. Device backups are controlled by your Apple and device settings, not by Ivory.

Apple Watch

The Ivory Apple Watch app records audio locally on the Watch and transfers that audio to the paired iPhone using Apple's device communication services. Transcription and note generation occur on the iPhone.

Permissions

Ivory requests microphone access only to record audio. You can review or revoke microphone permission in the Settings app on your device. Features that require microphone access will not work when permission is denied.

Data collection, tracking, and advertising

Ivory does not require account registration, display third-party advertising, or track you across apps and websites. The current version does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Apple may independently process limited information when you download Ivory, submit an App Store review, use TestFlight, or use Apple system services. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's own privacy policies.

Children's privacy

Ivory does not knowingly collect personal information from children through an Ivory-operated service. Ivory is not presented as a children's app. Parents and guardians should supervise recording and device use as appropriate.

Recording other people

You are responsible for obtaining permission before recording other people and for following the laws, school rules, workplace policies, and other requirements that apply where you are located. Ivory does not determine whether a particular recording is lawful.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when Ivory's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when a revised policy is published.
